COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Schedule

Did you know that you can find free theater programs with New york's finest actors and teaching artists for children, families and adults in your neighborhood library?

URBAN STAGES provides a variety of programs for you all year around.

For over 14 years, New York's top actors join us to bring quality theater to diverse audiences through the public library systems of NYC.  In the previous season of 2006-2007, we presented almost 400 programs to New York's public libraries & schools in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn.

Stay tuned for what's COMING UP

Arts in Education teaching residency at the Harlem Day Charter School.
In addition to our visits to public libraries, over the past two years, we've been managing an Arts Residency program at the Harlem Day Charter School with major support from the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation. Twice a week, our teaching artist, Melanie Amsterdam, has been coming to this elementary school teaching kids the joy of creating through story-telling, and hands-on art projects.

"I have always believed that the greatest place to call home is in the hearts of other people, especially children. I cannot express enough in words what this program means. You have to see the faces of these children; the smiles, the laughter, and the hugs. Especially the hugs! To reach one person and help is amazing, but through your program we reach so many. Thank you again for all your good work." Melanie Amsterdam, Teaching Artist in residence, Harlem Day Charter School.

Scheduling a program in your  library or school is as easy as picking up the phone.

Call our Programs Director, Lori Laster, at  (212) 421-1380. Pick out a few different dates that work in the schedule of your branch or school and we will arrange the rest, including the forwarding to you of our study guide, in order that you have enough time and information to prepare your publicity and organize materials for the event. It's that easy! If you have any questions or need consultation on choosing a program, just call our offices, we are happy to speak to you.
